Festival of Quilts is getting near, and there is a lot of preparation for Laura and me to do. Our stand is number P2, which is right opposite the new Fine Art Quilt Masters stand, so do come along and say hello!
Annabel will be there for the duration, and Laura, and the other artists will be popping in from time to time. Come and talk about the work and find out about inspirations and techniques.
We’ve asked a few curators to come along and see Through Our Hands and the current exhibition quilts.
We have also been producing a newsletter which you can sign up for at any time by letting us have your email address. If you can’t make the show, you can leave us messages on the facebook page or simply email us on firstname.lastname@example.org
Hopefully, Life 9 (below) will also be there in it’s unfinished form, so you can see how it builds into a finished, painted quilt.
Life 9 (Fighting Back) is about depression. It’s proved to be an emotive subject with lots of strongly held views. A painful subject for a lot of people, but something not particularly understood and not talked about openly.
We all know, I think, what it feels like to be down, a bit blue, miserable, stressed etc., but thankfully few of us experience the awfulness of clinical depression.
I haven’t been able to write the words for this one myself, so enlisted the help of a very good friend, Deborah Henderson who is a professional writer. I’ve also taken words by Stephen Fry and others for the small inserts in the background.
I hope to be able to paint the face before festival but will leave much of the rest in an unpainted state.
Gesso’d panels over text and stitch. These will be painted along the lines of my sketchbooks/altered books.
