Rugby Open Exhibition 2013

Application forms are now available for this year’s Open Exhibition.  Up to 3 original artworks created in the last year can be entered per applicant and entries can be in the form of painting, sculpture, drawing, print photography, film/video and craft.  Further information can be found on the RAGM website where the application form can also be downloaded.

The Rugby Open is a yearly exhibition of work by artists based in or near Rugby.  The 2013 Rugby Open is due to take place between 22 November 2013 – 11 January 2014.  Artists who are eligible (please see below) are welcome to apply.  Application forms are usually available towards the end of the summer- to register your interest please see our contact details below.
Eligibility  Artists and makers aged 16 or over on the date of submission (usually the October of the year the exhibition is happening in) are eligible who comply with one of the following criteria:

  • Members of one of the following established Rugby Artist groups; Rugby and District Art   Society,  Dunchurch Photographic Society, The Tantalus Project, Rugby Artists’ Group.
  • Currently studying or have studied in the Rugby Borough.
  • Live or occupy a studio within a 15 mile radius of Rugby Art Gallery and Museum including the following villages: Allesley, Astley, Blaby, Burton Green, Chapel Brampton, Church Brampton, Corley Ash, Corley Morr, East Farndon, Enderby, Fenny Compton, Fleckney, Gumley, Harpole, Heyford, Higham on the Hill, Kelmarsh, Kilby, Lubernham, Narborough, Stapleton, Stockingford, Stoke Golding, Thurlaston, Upper Stowe, Whetstone, Woodford Halse.

Up to three original artworks created the year previous to the exhibition opening can be entered per applicant. Entries will be accepted in the form of painting, sculpture, drawing, print, photography, film/video and craft. Performance and installation cannot be accepted.
Entry Fee
A fee of £5.00 per work (or £12.00 for three works by the same artist) is payable on submission. This fee is to cover exhibition administration and is non-refundable.
Selection Panel
The 2013 selection panel consists of elected Rugby Borough Council Members, a representative from ‘Tantalus’ a local art society, Marlene Little curator of the ‘Beyond Surface and Material’ exhibition at RAGM and Pip Dickens exhibiting artist of ‘Screen’ at RAGM. The panel’s decision is final.
Prizes Every year Rugby Art Gallery and Museum offer a first prize for the best work in the exhibition, selected by the panel of judges and supported by Rugby Borough Council.  The prize is £1,000 towards an exhibition in Floor One Gallery.  Pervious winners have been Lilly Gardener, Jacqueline Read-Szymczyk and Frank Cook.
There are several other prizes including the RAGM People’s Choice Award of £100 for the most popular choice voted for by the public during the exhibition along with several other prizes offered by local businesses.
