Jerwood Makers Open 2014

11/Sep/2014

Early career applied artists working across craft disciplines are invited to apply for Jerwood Makers Open 2014.
The artists selected for Jerwood Makers Open 2014 will be selected by an independent panel of high-profile figures from the cultural world, this year including Junko Mori, artist and metal worker; Claire Catterall, Director of Exhibitions and Learning at Somerset House; and Vicky Richardson, Director of Architecture, Design and Fashion for the British Council.
Together they will select five emerging applied artists to receive five £7,500 commissions for new work. The work created will then be exhibited as part of the Jerwood Visual Arts programme at Jerwood Space, London from 9 July to 24 August 2014.
Deadline: 5pm on 18 November 2013
The successful artists will be announced at the end of 2013.
THE AWARD & EXHIBITION
Jerwood Makers Open is designed to commission and showcase new work by emerging artists working in the applied arts. Five commissions of £7,500 will be awarded to artists to create new work, to be exhibited as part of the JVA programme at Jerwood Space, London and on tour nationally. Artists will be chosen by an independent selection panel and must be UK resident and within 10 years of graduating or setting up their practice.
HOW TO ENTER
Entry is by online application. Please click here to visit the online entry page.

SELECTION PROCESS
In considering proposals, the selectors will debate as a panel what they consider to be outstanding and original practice in the applied arts and will explore this through their selection. They will also consider how this particular opportunity could catalyse potential positive developments to individual makers’ practice and profile.
The selectors will consider all eligible proposals, and from this will select a shortlist of makers who will be invited to be interviewed by the selectors.
