‘HANDS UP FOR UGANDA’ and ‘STAR-CHILD SHOES’ CHALLENGE
Firstly, thank you for expressing an interest in being part of this exciting initiative from Janet Middleton of Star-Child Shoes, which is aimed at raising much needed funds for the Charity ‘Hands up for Uganda’, a charity founded by textile artist Bobby Britnell.
Hands up for Uganda is a small personal charity which works at grass roots level with the people of Kisaabwa, Uganda, helping them towards a sustainable future. This is done through various projects and with a guarantee that every penny raised gets out to Uganda.
This particular initiative focuses on a creative craft link between Star-Child shoes and traditional crafts and materials from the village of Kisaabwa and we hope to engage textiles artists from the UK and further afield in its conception. We require artists to decorate and embellish a piece of bark cloth in any way that they like and these pieces will be made up into ‘ART SHOES’ by Janet and be part of two ICHF exhibitions in 2014, in Birmingham and London.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:
- Purchase a piece of bark cloth for which we ask for a minimum amount of £3 to cover the cost.
- Decorate this piece in any way that you wish. This could include, printing, dyeing, hand stitching, machine stitching, cutting, layering etc.
- It can be backed to strengthen if required.
- It can have other fabrics applied.
- It can be made sculptural.
- You can make individual motifs to be applied back onto the bark cloth piece.
The important thing is for Janet to receive an A4 sized piece, when you have finished being creative, which still shows evidence of some bark cloth. Be as ‘funky’ and ‘whacky’ as you like. Please contact Janet if there are any queries: firstname.lastname@example.org
The bark cloth is available from Bobby Britnell at email@example.com
Collection preferred if possible to avoid postage costs, but no worries if not possible.
Finished pieces can be sent direct to Janet at Star-Child Shoes. These can begin to arrive at any time, up to the end of the year, but must be labelled with your name and email address, IN BLOCK CAPITALS PLEASE.
